Introducing PRACTICA

A new way to work with the most exciting and effective modalities I have discovered and developed in 30+ years of singing and coaching.

PRACTICA is a voice, movement, and performance lab dedicated to deepening your coordination, skill, artistry, creativity, and self-trust.

I believe that music, movement, and life itself are dance – on a subatomic, neurobiological, and universal level.

Shiva Nataraja, one of the principal deities in Hinduism, is regarded as the divine cosmic dancer. His functions include creation, destruction, and preservation. Nataraja is a Sanskrit term from Nata, meaning “act, drama, dance,” and raja, meaning “king” or “lord”; the name reflects Shiva’s renown as the “King of Actors” or “Lord of Dancers.”

Shiva’s dance is the universe.

The word practica originates in Ancient Greek, meaning “to do” or “to act,” and in this context also refers to práctica in Argentine tango – an informal, relaxed practice session designed to improve technique and experiment with new movements in a supportive environment.

So, in PRACTICA, we move, act, sing, and play together in the cosmic dance.

The work is rigorous, playful, and transformational.

And you are invited.

ELEMENTS OF PRACTICA

TEACHING

I will bring principles and concepts to challenge and inspire you in each weekly meeting. These ideas will move you into new ways to perceive, build skills, and help you be at the growing edge of your work.

Specific Areas of Focus Will Include:
Coordination & Ease in All Movement
Breathing
Resonance
Agility, Articulation, Ornamentation
Navigating Registers: Head, Chest, Passaggi
Emotion in Performing
Pre-Performance Energy / Heightened States
Consistency in Quality

We will work with these in synthesized practices, for example:
A warm-up that integrates coordination, breathing, resonance, and pre-performance energy.

PHYSICAL PRACTICES

The physical practices in PRACTICA facilitate the support, dynamic stability, uprighting, joint centration, synergy, coordination, and timing that are present and required for healthy development, as well as high-level artistry and athleticism.

We will work with verifiable, accurate, and relevant anatomy and functioning in the context of whole-self performance. In doing so, we may interface with and revise outdated, incorrect, or incomplete ideas about movement, breathing, singing, and performing.

ARTISTIC PRACTICES

In the teaching and coaching process, we will work with text, character, rehearsal processes, and performance readiness- thriving in heightened performance states.

In PRACTICA, we will do the physical, technical, and artistic practices together in real time. You get everything in the session itself, so the demands of life do not prevent you from getting the benefits. You will also have access to recordings of each session for review.

COACHING

You are invited to be coached on anything you are currently doing or working on from a physical/artistic/vocal/ coordination/biopsychosocial standpoint. You will be coached at the level of your skill and experience- if you are new to this work, you will be given the information you need to create the foundation you need. If you are fluent in this work, you will be coached accordingly and lovingly challenged as desired.

The magic of an integrated, trans-disciplinary group is that you get the benefits of others’ work as well as your own.
